What Will it Cost?

Meeting my customer’s requirements is the core of my philosophy. This also goes for the price. But quality must not be sacrificed in the interest of keeping costs down.

Working directly with freelance translators has the advantage of cutting out the intermediary – the translation agency – often resulting in a more cost-effective service. Whether this option is best for you depends on your requirements. More...

Expertise  How are prices calculated?

Costs
In the United Kingdom and North America, prices are usually calculated in pounds per 1000 words and cents per word respectively. In mainland Europe, the standard line, usually consisting of 55 keystrokes, is commonly used as a basis for pricing translations, although word counts – which are easier to determine – are becoming more popular.

Because my services are aimed at an international market, I follow the customer’s preferred method in each case, and can also provide a fixed-price quote or estimate.

Additional services, such as revising, proofreading and compiling glossaries are usually charged by the hour.

Beside the volume of text to be translated, the total cost of a translation depends on whether the text is inbound (correspondence, user manuals for internal use, etc.) or outbound (for example product manuals and marketing material). Saving costs on the latter could damage your company’s image and result in lost profit.
